Time For An Update Of Progress

If you’ve been following my blog from when it was originally created, you will have noticed that there has been quite a transformation!!!

From a plain standard WordPress blog to the blog you see today, it has been and continues to be a great experience.

Having just received week 5, it doesn’t seem that long since I started this business course.  Everything has been in good bitesize chunks and easy to follow.  Not only that, but the regular training webinars, the members forum and the support are second to none.  My first experience of the forum was great.  I’d no sooner added my progress when others started posting messages of encouragement and advice.  That is a good environment to be in.  You have a much stronger degree of success when you have supportive people behind you.  Sometimes if you lack belief in yourself, you can be built up again by others who are looking out for you.

I have played about with websites and blogs, but, have had no real direction.  Through doing this course and having mentoring, it makes a difference, believe me!!  It is so good having a strong support network, others who are ahead of you and probably been through similar issues, are more than happy to help guide you.  Even though I have been in only a short space of time, the advice that I have received has been superb and extremely helpful.

The other thing that I have now is a direction, I know where I am headed.  Where is that?  It’s towards a blog that is full of useful information, experience, help and inspiration to be successful.  I already see myself as successful and to be successful, you need to action and to invest in yourself.  I have done and continue to do both.

If you’ve tried or are considering learning how to make a living online, then seriously consider this course.  It is so easy to say that because I’m on it that, of course, I’m going to recommend it.  But, having been on other courses where there has not been this environment, I fell by the wayside with them within a short period of time, ie, two weeks.  The fact that I have gotten this far speaks volumes about this course.  Why not do it yourself?

Partnership To Success

I look forward to meeting up with you in the forum and let’s help each other to help each other!!

How Safe Are You On Your Computer?

I hope you are as safe as you can be on your computer.  There are some steps that you can and need to take.  It is not safe to simply cross your fingers, legs and eyes and trust to luck that you won’t get hacked.  It is a sad thing that something like the internet is not how it should really be.  That is to be safe, fun and educational. Not forgetting that it’s a great way to keep in touch with your friends and family.  Oh, and the savings that can be made online.  And so on………..

So what can you do about your security?

The first thing that you need to do is set up your computer so that it prompts you for a password before you get into your account.  Yes, I know that some people, it can be a bit of a bind.  But, what is worse, typing in a password and making your system more secure, or, someone easily grabbing your details, trashing your computer and you lose lots of important personal info?

Please read my previous post on creating strong passwords.

The next thing that you need to consider is an Anti-virus programme.  There are quite a few out there.  Two of the top “paid for”, in my personal opinion, are not worth buying.  I have found, on a number of occassions, that they are processor hungry and slow the computer down.  In actual fact, I remember, there was a couple of people where their anti-virus made their system sooooo safe, they couldn’t get online.  They had to remove the software!!  Crazy!!

There are a couple of really great FREE Anti-virus programmes out there.  One that I use and recommend to friends is AVG.  If you click on this link here, you will be directed to a site where you can type in “avg free” and it will provide a link for you.  It has many features that will protect you for free, but, if you want, you can pay for extras should you feel that they will be of benefit to you.  It doesn’t “hog” your system, and, it allows you surf the internet more safely.  It even checks and warns out about potentially hazardous websites!

Please, if you don’t get an anti-virus programme installed straightaway!!

How Hacked Off Are You At Being Hacked?

How many times have you come across hearing about peoples accounts being hacked in the media?

Well, that’s too many times for me, is that too many for you?

So, what can you do to help minimise your accounts being broke into?

There is, unfortunately, nothing that is 100% secure.  Those that are serious about breaking into an account will do it.  But, to stop the casual hacker or someone who has a grudge against you, you can do something relatively straightforward.  It is easy to implement.  The issue is that a lot of people find computer security to be complicated, or, at least, perceive it to be complicated.

The good news is that it is not complicated.  Let me explain how you can do it and allow you sleep easier.  No matter which account it is, Facebook, email, or your computer, you can implement the following information as soon as you have finished reading this.  I hope you have your computer protected by a password when it starts up, ie, you are prompted to log into Windows or your Apple Mac.  That is your first level of security.  You could have a password prompt when you first switch on, but, for 98% of people, you don’t need that level, unless you have extremely sensitive information!!

Ok, here we go.  Firstly, write down a password that you want to use, make it about 6 to 8 characters in length.  Then write down the following on a separate piece of paper until you are used to using numbers in place of letters.

A = 4

B = 8

E = 3

I = 1

O = 0    That’s the Letter “O” replaced by a Zero “0”

S = 5

If you want, you could exchange A for @ but not every online system allows those characters.

Now, rewrite the word and substitute the letters for the numbers.  For example:

hassled would become h455l3d

permanent would become p3rm4n3nt

steven would become 5t3v3n

and so on and so on.

See how easy it is to implement!!?

If you want to go a step further, you could add a number that is easy for you to remember.  For example:

permanent that becomes p3rm4n3nt could have a date of birth added at the end

p3rm4n3nt1985 or 1985p3rm4n3nt or 1985p3rm4n3nt1985 or p3r1985m4n3nt or any other combination you like. You can even use capital letters so you can type p3rm4n3nt

At work, if they want strong passwords, this is a great way to create them.

Password crackers find it easy to work out words without numbers, but, can take forever to crack them when there are numbers involved.

To make a password even stronger, you could include special characters like !, $, @, or ? where these are allowed.

One other main major rule when creating a password is never to share it with anyone, keep it to yourself!!

Lastly, once you’ve created your password, make sure you can remember it, otherwise, you will lock yourself out.  We don’t want that to happen, do we!!?

Have fun experimenting and keep your personal information safe!!

Developing The Blog

I am now into week 2 of the Partnerships To Success training.  The result is now how the blog looks.  Had you been here last week, you will notice quite a change with  having a new theme, great new header and a great new look overall.  With easy to follow videos, I’m looking forward to developing this further.  Getting to know WordPress to a deeper level is and is going to be very helpful.

I have installed other WordPress blogs, installed themes and the like, but, learning to customise makes it even more fun.  This is the first of many posts to come.  I hope you will come along with me on this great journey and watch this develop.  I really enjoy new things technology wise, having started with the Commodore Pet series and programming in cpm basic, then BBC basic and then progressing to Visual Basic.

The internet has come on a long way and now I don’t need to worry about the coding.  WordPress looks after all that, so, with the new possibilities open to me, I will teach my imagination to run free again.  It has been locked up for too long!!

Please leave a comment, each one will be read by myself.  Looking forward to week 3.
